Asian Openbill

Asian Openbill, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Alternate names: Asian Open-bill Stork, Openbill Storknd
Location: Wakad, on the banks of Mula River (1 km away from my house :D).

And i was going all around to find birds :) hahaha!!

These are REALLY large birds.. just loved them.

Had to follow them for about 500 meters through river side bushes / fields but it was worth it.

Wish you guys a very happy new year

BTW.. there is a full colony settled here (Few more photos of the colony below).. if anyone wants to capture them i will be happy to be a guide!

Sky Color.. ya.. i hate it.. but it was totally overcast and setting sun did not help much :(

Indian Roller, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

What a beautiful bird.. and when you catch it in sky.. its even more special with spectacular wing span and color!

Taken again near Ambejogai 2 weeks back!

Another shot taken under very low light (evening before this shot!).. surprisingly the blue color is still visible.. please bear with the noise on the body

You think i look "cute"?

Blissful Morning

Blissful Morning, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Where... Ofcourse Pashan Lake on Christmas Day!

Season's greetings :)

Gray Wagtail (my first REAL birding shot!)

The reason i say this is my first REAL birding shot is that my "mentor" vaibhav made me follow the bird, without making noise, crawl for 1-20 mins in almost dirt position the shot, wait for the perfect b/g, watch the catchlight in the eye and take this shot :).

Its a "Gray Wagtail" interestingly it has yellow patches over its body.. (Marathi name करडा धोबी)

Again.. thanks vaibhav :).

Location? Pashan Lake (my family is so bored because i go to Pashan lake for macro / landscape and even birding. I better find another location now :)
here are couple of other shots from same shoot!

Can someone ID please? (i know its a kite.. but not sure about the name)

Taken today evening near wakad on the river bank (had to do some trekking to reach to this spot but i realized, monopod works as a trekking stick :)

This kite was guarding its nest (see the nest photo below)

Indian Pond Heron

Indian Pond Heron, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Indian-Pond-Heron,

Spotted this guy again on Tuljapur-Osmanabad road. There is a lake on both sides of the road.. and there is also a small concrete pond. This Heron really loved spotting fish standing on the parapet.

Do you guys think this has come out ok?
he gave some interesting poses.. here is one of them!

White Bellied Drongo

White Bellied Drongo, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Saw many of them.. and few were close enough for a good photograph!

Mirror Mirror on the ground!!

black-winged-stilt.. in a road-side lake in marathwada!

interestingly.. the eye is better visible in the reflection than in the actual bird! This was the only shot where the reflection was so clear as the bird had just moved front and the ripples had not reached the front side of reflection (that's the only explanation i have!

White Necked Stork

White Necked Stork, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

My first time spotting this bird!! He was sitting pretty near the road while our car was traveling at 40 km / hr. And somehow i spotted it.. so we backed for 100 mtrs and he was still standing there to allow me a couple of shots before taking off :)

Shot taken between Osmanabad - Tuljapur road 2 days back.

I wish the b/g was not so bright

New Life

New Life, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Simple new Leaf :)

Friends

Friends, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Not very common to see two dragonflies on the same twig.. (atleast not for me :) )

This is not a macro.. just a shot @ 300mm with on-camera-flash fired!
Another interesting angle...(this was the first angle!).. i took the shot and then realized there is something wrong.. the dragonfly can't have so many wings.. and then changed the viewing angle and was surprised that there is another guy sitting behind!

And then i found another pair of same color.. guess i was lucky :)

Road Side Jewelry Maker

Road Side Jewelry Maker, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Shot taken on Lakshmi Road around Diwali when the road-side jewelry maker (ofcourse outside the bigger jewelry shops) was busy finishing the orders.

Him holding this necklace in his feet for finishing looked pretty amusing to me.. does it look any different to you?

Tried Old Photo processing on this one (not complete.. just a little)

Refraction

Refraction, originally uploaded by Yogendra174.

Posting a shot after 5 days.. that's not normal.. but worth it.

This shot was taken during the MACRO session i was conducting @ Drushtikon. I was planning to get a refraction shot for 3 months now (and Deepak Kul had reminded me to do so many a times :D).. so decided to do that in the session on tethered shooting.. and bonus was.. not just the refraction but even the water drops on refracted flower are clearly visible.. now that's something.

This one was taken with Raynox.. see another one with reverse ring in comments.
Here is the shot with Reverse Ring :)..
